Video on Instagram

The highly popular photo sharing app, Instagram which was acquired by Facebook last year launched a new video function on 20th June. The new feature, 'Video on Instagram' allowed users to make 15-second videos to share and included basic editing capabilities and 13 new filters that were specially made for video. There is also a stabilization feature called Cinema which automatically improve the video to remove shakiness.

This new feature would impact the 130 million monthly users that Instagram has, who have shared 16 billion photos to date. More than 1 billion "likes" are generated on Instagram every day.

Video on Instagram will compete against Twitter's popular app called Vine, which allows users to create and share 6-seconds video clips. Videos are a difficult medium to excel in due to data speed limitations and the time needed to watch a video.
